McLaughlinElizabeth SEVEN McLaughlinStop Child Abuse NOW!298 Hunington Ave.Eugene, Oregon 97405-4055-----True story and testimonyMan Seeks To Spread Love, Not Hate. For The Suffering He's One WhoDelivers Hope. A Story About Paul McLaughlinYour background isn't as important as what you do with your future, saysPaul McLaughlin also known as "The Miracle Man."Many people around Portland, Eugene and Springfield, Oregon have seen hisstreet campain sign encouraging them to "Help Stop Child Abuse."Others have benefited from funds he has raised for child abuse programsand hospitals.Still others, who tell him of abuse they have suffered, may hear words ofencouragement based on his own background."No matter what happened to you in the past, "he says, "However horribleit was, don't blame it on God or other people. HE can help you turneverything around so you can help others who have suffered. "The MiracleMan is a living proof.For many years, Paul had no hope for a better future."I thought I would stay small forever and never grow up, and always livein a world of pain and hate."He almost lost the chance to grow up.At the age of two, he was admitted to a hospital malnournished, battered,almost dead.He later wished he was dead.BUT N0-ONE HEARD HIS SILENT CRIES!He listed the kinds of abuse he and his twin sister endured:"Placed on top of hot stove, eat stool and bars of soap and vomited, headsplit open many times with spiked dress shoe and stick.Beaten on flesh skin without clothes on.The list goes on and on.He was beaten almost every day about 4-6 times per day."As he walked to church with his parents he was afraid of them.He would look at the people on the street and in church and cry out in hismind, "Look at me, I am being hurt. Help my twin sister. We need help."But no one heard his silent cries.His Older brother and sister were not abused.In the midst of his terrible childhood, Paul also came to know "this thingcalled love."When he was baptised (Methodist church in Donora, Pennsylvania) at age ofseven or eight,"LOVE ENTERED MY LITTLE BODY AND I KNEW WHAT IT WAS," he says."As I was being abused, this love was with me and yet I hated God forgiving me this terrible childhood.Classified as learning disabled, Paul was placed in Special Educationcourses and finally graduated from high school at age 21.HIS WORKSAfter 2 years in the Army, he began his own campaign against child abusein 1975 in Tacoma, Washington and Portland, Oregon.He'd talked to kids on the streets, referring them to agencies where theycould get help if abused, homeless, or on drugs.He'd visit people in hospitals and clinics."It took much courage to start my campaign," he says. "So much fear wasinside of me because of the past severe abuse."Some people would laugh, swear or throw things at him.Since 1975, he spoke on seven radio talk program, appeared in a TVcommercial, ten Forums in Washington and Oregon, his story in twomagazine, his fund raising projects for the homeless, cripple children,child abuse.It bothers him, he says, that a few are willing to report child abuse whenthey see it until it is too late and the children are killed.Paul became a Christian in 1989 through the ministry of Focus on the Family."It took over 35 yeras to become a true believer in Christ," he says."I had blamed God for my suffering.He then realized "CHRIST GAVE ME THIS LOVE TO EASE THE BURDEN OF SUFFERING."Christ had taken some of my pain by giving me this love and yet I used tocurse God.Paul admits he's still far from perfect, but knows his faith in Christbrought segnificant changes in his life."I went home to see my mother and I forgave her and I gave her a hug.Paul doesn't understand the "why of suffering," but accepts that Godwanted him to live so he could help others."I wish others could have what I have," he says. 'NO PAIN, BUT THIS THINGCALLED LOVE.'He told of a 15 year old girl he talked to.She also had suffered abuse and tried to kill herself by slashing herwrist with a razor blade."I changed her life because I said three magic words, "I love you".She cried and gave me a hug and told me that no one ever told her thatbefore."Paul M. --------------------

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Paul Marvin McLaughlin and his twin sister Paula were born on October 13,
1948 in Donora, Pennsylvania, and were systematically abused, neglected
and terrorized for more than eighteen years. Paul nearly died twice from
the injuries he suffered as a result of this abuse.

Because of the effects of the abuse he suffered, Paul was placed in the
Special Education track in Donara. Paul graduated from Donora High School
at the age of 21 in 1970.

Paul began his one-man child abuse advocacy campaign, "Help Stop Child
Abuse Now," in 1975. Paul started his campaign in Donora, and has
continued his efforts on behalf of children in Portland and Eugene,
Oregon.

Paul has told his story on seven talk-radio programs, a television
commercial, in two magazine articles and many newspaper articles. He has
spoken at open forums in Washington and Oregon, side by side with those
who specialize in child abuse and domestic family violence. He has
volunteered and worked with other non profit organizations. He shows the
people in many communities how to contact proper agencies for assistance
for drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness, runaways, or physical abuse.

Many lives have been changed as the direct result of Paul's advocacy and
his love of children. Let's all work together to Stop Child Abuse Now!

source of chaos in their lives. Through awareness and education,
survivors can

* regain control over their lives
* learn healthy assertiveness
* learn to develop boundaries
* prevent re-victimization

Our goal is to join with other organizations and individuals who wish to
ultimately put a stop to child abuse! We are speaking out for for the
children who have no voice, who have no choice and who have no way of
stopping the violence! We are stepping stones to help, and we are trying
to wake up the world!

FROM OUR FOUNDER

Something is killing our children. It is much more widespread than AIDS,
but not enough is being done about it. Every two minutes a child becomes
a prisoner of war, taken hostage not by some stranger down the street or
from some enemy land, but by someone they know and love. Home should be
safe and secure, but sexual abuse is a secret crime with no witnesses!
Corporations have security guards, but family homes have nothing to
protect the children inside! Kids are screaming out the pain of their
abuse in alternative high schools, juvenile homes and treatment centers
using what I call "The Silent Scream For Help,". Many are just forgotten.
Most victims repress some or all of their abuse, leaving them to feel
like bad kids in a society that doesn't even care enough to help them.
Someone needs to listen! I am willing to be that someone!!

Please listen to the children! They need us to hear them and help them!
I was one of those children. I know the terror and desperation of living
with abuse. I know the pain of being forgotten and alone, I will never
forget......
